Description
The Canadian Lynx Armoured Car was a light reconnaissance vehicle developed during World War II, based on the British Dingo Scout Car. Manufactured by Ford Canada, it was designed to provide mobility and protection for reconnaissance units operating in European battlefields.
The Lynx Mk I, introduced in 1942, featured a Ford V8 engine producing 95 horsepower, giving it a top speed of 88 km/h (55 mph). It was larger and heavier than the Dingo, with a wider wheelbase and thicker armour, improving crew protection. The vehicle was armed with a .303 Bren light machine gun, mounted for self-defence.
The Lynx Mk II, produced later in the war, had structural improvements, including a strengthened chassis and the removal of the roof, enhancing visibility for the crew. The Lynx was used by Canadian armoured reconnaissance regiments, signals units, and division headquarters, playing a vital role in scouting and intelligence gathering.
