Description
The Canadian Quad Polsten Anti-Aircraft (AA) Trailer was a mobile air defence platform developed during World War II. It featured four 20mm Polsten cannons, a simplified and cost-effective version of the Oerlikon 20mm gun, designed by Polish engineers and later refined in Britain. Manufactured by John Inglis Limited of Toronto, the quad-mounted Polsten provided high-rate firepower against low-flying aircraft.
Mounted on a wheeled trailer, the system was towable by trucks and light vehicles, allowing for rapid deployment in combat zones. The Polsten guns were capable of firing 450 rounds per minute each, delivering a devastating barrage against enemy aircraft. The quad configuration was also used on truck-mounted platforms, increasing mobility and effectiveness.
Although the Quad Polsten AA Trailer saw limited service towards the end of the war, it was a valuable addition to Commonwealth air defence.
