Dodge 3/4 tonne truck (US)

Description

During World War II, the Dodge 3/4-ton truck, part of the WC series, was a vital military vehicle used by the U.S. Army. Introduced in 1942, it was designed as a light 4WD utility truck, bridging the gap between smaller jeeps and heavier transport vehicles. Dodge produced over 255,000 units, making it one of the most widely used trucks of the war.

The WC series included various configurations, such as cargo trucks, ambulances, command cars, and weapons carriers. The WC-51 and WC-52 were the most common models, featuring a Dodge T-214 engine with 92 horsepower, a four-speed transmission, and a payload capacity of 1,500 pounds. These trucks were highly versatile, serving in Europe, North Africa, and the Pacific, transporting troops, supplies, and equipment.

Nicknamed the “Beep”, the Dodge 3/4-ton truck was rugged, reliable, and easy to maintain. It was often paired with the Ben Hur 1-ton trailer for additional cargo capacity. After the war, many were repurposed for civilian use, influencing the design of the Dodge Power Wagon.
