Description
During World War II, emplaced 8.8 cm Flak guns were crucial in defending German radar installations from Allied air attacks. Positioned near strategic radar sites such as those in the Kammhuber Line, these guns provided high-altitude anti-aircraft cover. Their powerful shells and radar-guided fire control systems allowed accurate targeting of enemy bombers. Often arranged in batteries with searchlights and command devices, Flak 88s formed a layered defence network. Despite their effectiveness, Allied bombing raids and electronic countermeasures strained these defences. Nonetheless, the Flak 88 remained a backbone of German air defence, protecting vital radar infrastructure throughout the war.
