Model SU-COE 6×6 (US)

Description

The FWD Model SU-COE 6×6 was a robust American military truck produced by the Four-Wheel Drive Auto Company during the Second World War. Designed as a Special Utility – Cargo and Ordnance Equipment vehicle, it featured a cab-over-engine layout and six-wheel drive, making it highly capable in challenging terrain.

While many units were supplied to Britain, Canada, and the USSR under Lend-Lease, the U.S. Marine Corps employed short-wheelbase, open-cab versions for artillery towing, cargo transport, and troop movement—particularly in Pacific campaigns such as Guadalcanal. Powered by a Waukesha SRKR 6-cylinder engine and equipped with a five-speed transmission, the SU-COE offered solid performance and versatility.

Its rugged construction and adaptability made it a valuable asset in amphibious operations and remote logistics. Though not as widely used as other U.S. trucks, its specialised role and distinctive design earned it a place in wartime vehicle history, especially within Marine Corps service.
