Description
The Hotchkiss H39, an advanced iteration of the H35, was a French light tank that played a significant role during World War II. It featured a more powerful engine and an enhanced 37 mm main gun, which made it a formidable opponent in battle.
The H39 was recognized for its substantial armour, capable of withstanding early-war anti-tank weapons. Despite its slow speed and challenging handling in off-road conditions, it was adopted by both the French Infantry and Cavalry due to its resilience and firepower.
The tank saw service in several countries and was active in conflicts up until 1952. With a new 120 hp engine, the H39’s performance improved, boasting a top speed of 36.5 km/h on roads and an increased operational range of 150 km, thanks to a larger fuel tank.
