Lancia 1Z armoured car (Italian)

Description

Originally developed during WWI, the Lancia 1Z (and 1ZM) armoured car saw continued use by the Italian Army during the interwar period and into WWII. Initially a good design, with considerable firepower via a multiple MG equipped turret, it was already obsolete by the start of WWII. AS well as the clearly dated design, it’s WWI origins are given away by the presence of the twin rails running up and over the vehicle for cutting through barbed wire. 

The majority of the 1Z’s service was in North and East Africa between the wars on policing duty. However, some were used during the Spanish Civil War of 1936-39. During WII its service was limited to some action during the East African Campaign, though it was also used by the occupying Germans.
