M14/41 medium tank (Italian)

A (M)edium tank of 14 tons, and adopted in 1941, the M14/41 was another of the “classic” Italian tanks of WWII that added to the overall bad reputation they have. The downsides of the tank were many – it was cramped, unreliable, prone to catching fire when hit, and was already obsolete before it entered combat. Equipped with a 47mm light anti-tank gun and a twin 8mm machine guns, it also fared poorly against the Allied armour it faced in the desert. The HE round of the main gun was good however, and proved effective against infantry and dug in positions.

Over 800 were produced in total. Some captured units were put into service by the British and Australians, but not for long. The final use of the M14/41 was the use of their chassis to provide the basis for the excellent Semovente 90/53 tank destroyer
