M3 Scout car (Soviet)

Description

The M3 Scout Car, also known as the White Scout Car, was an American armoured vehicle produced during World War II. Designed by the White Motor Company, it was introduced in 1939 and saw extensive use throughout the war and beyond. The M3 Scout Car was primarily used for reconnaissance, command, and personnel transport roles.

The vehicle featured a 4×4 wheel drive system and was powered by a Hercules JXD 6-cylinder in-line petrol engine, delivering 110 horsepower. This allowed the M3 Scout Car to reach speeds of up to 50 mph (80 km/h) with an operational range of 250 miles (400 km). The vehicle’s armour ranged from 6.4 mm to 13 mm, providing basic protection against small arms fire and shrapnel.

The M3 Scout Car was equipped with a .50 cal M2 Browning heavy machine gun and one or two .30 cal M1919 Browning machine guns, mounted on a skate rail for flexible firing positions. Its open-top design offered excellent visibility but left the crew exposed to overhead threats. The vehicle could carry a driver, commander, and up to six additional passengers.

Despite its limitations, the M3 Scout Car was valued for its versatility and reliability. It was used by various Allied forces, including the British Commonwealth and Soviet Union, and continued to serve in various roles post-war.
