Description
The Mack NO was a heavy-duty 7½-ton 6×6 cargo and artillery tractor developed for the U.S. Army during the Second World War. Designed to tow the heaviest field guns—including the 155mm Long Tom, 8-inch howitzer, and 240mm howitzer—it featured a robust cab-over-engine layout, a spacious five-man cab, and a powerful Mack EY 6-cylinder petrol engine producing 159 horsepower.
First introduced in 1943, the NO series included several variants (NO-1 through NO-7), with over 2,000 units built by war’s end. Its dual-range transmission and beam axle suspension gave it excellent off-road capability, vital for battlefield logistics and artillery deployment. Though slower than lighter trucks, its reliability and towing strength made it indispensable in European and Pacific theatres.
