Description
The Pak 40 auf Panzerkampfwagen 737 FCM (f) was a German field conversion that mounted the powerful 7.5cm Pak 40 anti-tank gun onto the chassis of the captured French FCM 36 light tank. Following the 1940 campaign in France, the Wehrmacht repurposed numerous French vehicles to bolster its armoured capabilities, particularly in support and defensive roles.
In this variant, the original turret of the FCM 36 was removed and replaced with a fixed, open-topped superstructure housing the Pak 40. This gun was one of Germany’s most effective anti-tank weapons, capable of penetrating most Allied armour at medium ranges. The FCM chassis, while lightly armoured and relatively slow, provided a stable platform for the gun and allowed for limited mobility compared to towed artillery.
