Regelbau R697 observation bunker

Description

The R697 was a reinforced concrete observation bunker constructed by Nazi Germany as part of the Atlantik Wall coastal defence system during the Second World War. Designed to serve as a forward observation post, it played a vital role in directing artillery fire and monitoring enemy movements along the coastline.

The structure featured thick blast-resistant walls, a protected observation cupola or periscope, and internal rooms for personnel, communication equipment, and rangefinding instruments. Positioned on elevated ground or integrated into larger defensive complexes, the R697 offered clear lines of sight over key strategic areas such as beaches, harbours, and inland approaches.

It was typically manned by artillery observers and signal operators who relayed targeting data to nearby gun batteries. The bunker’s robust construction ensured survivability under fire, making it a critical component in the German coastal defence network.

This model has a removable roof and/or floors for access.

Please note that these are designed to be built into terrain, gaming boards and so can be quite deep – please contact us if you require them to be lower to the tabletop and we will shorten them before printing to save material and cost for you.
