Description
The Somua S35, a distinguished French cavalry tank of World War II, was a product of 1930s engineering excellence. Designed primarily for the armoured divisions of the Cavalry, it was manufactured from 1936 to 1940.
Renowned for its agility, the S35 was a medium-weight tank that boasted superior armour and armament compared to both its French counterparts and foreign adversaries, including the German Panzer III. Despite being produced in limited numbers, the S35’s robust firepower and solid protection made it one of the era’s most formidable tanks.
Its operational history during the war, while not extensive, highlighted the tank’s design strengths and weaknesses, contributing valuable insights into armoured warfare tactics and design that would influence future tank development.
