T30 HMC Halftrack (US)

Description

The T30 HMC (Howitzer Motor Carriage) was a variant of the M3 halftrack designed in 1941. It was developed as an interim measure to provide a mobile assault gun for armoured and motorised units. Mounting a 75mm pack howitzer, it could keep pace with motorised battalions and rapidly provide support fire. It first saw service in late 1942 in North Africa before also being deployed to support the Allied invasion of Sicily in 1943.

Around 500 were built and it saw use through the later years of the war and into the 1950s.
