Description

The US-6 was a Soviet military truck produced by the American company Studebaker under the Lend-Lease programme during the Second World War. Between 1941 and 1945, over 150,000 units were delivered to the USSR, making it one of the most significant Western contributions to the Soviet war effort. Known in the Red Army simply as the “Studebaker,” the US-6 was prized for its reliability, ruggedness, and versatility across harsh terrain.

The truck featured a 2.5-ton payload capacity and was powered by a 6-cylinder petrol engine. It came in both 4×6 and 6×6 configurations, with the latter offering superior off-road performance—ideal for the muddy roads and deep snow of the Eastern Front. The US-6 was used extensively for transporting troops, ammunition, and supplies, and it also served as a platform for Katyusha rocket launchers.

Soviet soldiers appreciated the US-6 for its ease of maintenance and dependable performance, often preferring it over domestic models. Its contribution to Soviet logistics was immense, helping to sustain the Red Army’s mobility during key offensives. After the war, many US-6 trucks remained in service or were repurposed for civilian use, cementing their legacy as a vital component of Soviet wartime logistics.
