Description
This self‑propelled artillery piece was built by mounting the 10.5cm leFH 18 howitzer on the French Hotchkiss H39 chassis. Germany employed it to provide mobile fire support for units lacking modern SP artillery. Armour protection was minimal, but mobility and firepower were significantly improved over towed guns. Used mainly in occupation forces and on secondary fronts, it delivered effective indirect fire and could reposition quickly to avoid counter‑battery attacks. Its conversion demonstrated German reliance on captured French vehicles to fill equipment gaps, especially early in the war when demand for mechanised artillery exceeded domestic production capacity..
