Description
The Lancia 3 Ro was an Italian 4×2 heavy truck developed in the 1930s. In addition to their civilian use, they were popular with the Italian army, and a number of variants were produced.
Among these was a self propelled gun created by fitting a rear facing Skoda 100/17 howitzer to the 3 Ro. It was not an ideal conversion – without even a gun shield, the crew were horribly exposed to enemy fire, and the recoil could chase damage to the truck itself. However, it did provide much needed mobile artillery support to the army in the desert.
Another variant was the 3 Ro 90, which mounted the powerful Cannone 90/53 heavy anti-aircraft gun. This allowed for mobile AA support and heavy anti-tank capabilities at a push.
