Description

The Autocar U-7144-T was a 4- to 5-ton 4×4 tractor truck developed in the United States and widely employed by the U.S. Army during the Second World War. Produced between 1941 and 1945, over 11,000 units were built, making it one of the most prolific heavy-duty tractor trucks of the war.

Powered by a Hercules RXC 6-cylinder petrol engine delivering 112 horsepower, the U-7144-T featured a semi-bonneted cab-over-engine design and a 10-speed transmission, offering both power and manoeuvrability. Its primary role was to tow semi-trailers—ranging from flatbeds to fuel tankers and communications vans—across rear areas and supply lines.

The truck’s rugged construction and reliable performance made it a key component in the U.S. Army’s logistical operations, particularly in the European theatre. Its versatility and standardisation also led to production by other manufacturers, including White and Federal, under different designations.
