Description

The C4P artillery tractor was a Polish military vehicle developed in the 1930s to provide mobility for artillery units. Based on the Polski Fiat 621 truck chassis, it was adapted into a half‑track design by fitting tracks at the rear and retaining wheels at the front. This gave it improved cross‑country performance compared to standard trucks, allowing it to tow heavy artillery pieces and carry crews across difficult terrain.

The C4P was produced in several variants, including versions for towing anti‑aircraft guns, field artillery, and heavy mortars. At the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939, the Polish Army employed the C4P to support its artillery regiments during the German invasion.

Although relatively advanced for its time, Poland’s limited industrial capacity meant only a modest number were built. Many were destroyed in combat or captured by German forces, who sometimes reused them for their own logistical purposes.
