Chevrolet WD 30 CWT Truck – 2‑pdr QF Portee (British)

Description

This Commonwealth portee conversion mounted the quick‑firing 2‑pounder anti‑tank gun on the bed of a Chevrolet 30‑cwt truck. Used extensively in the North African desert, it allowed gunners to fire directly from the vehicle or quickly dismount the weapon. The truck offered excellent mobility but virtually no protection, requiring crews to rely on speed and surprise. Despite its vulnerability, the portee concept proved effective against early Axis armour though as enemy tanks improved, the 2‑pounder became inadequate.
