DAK 5cm Granatwerfer team – moving (German)

Description

The German 5 cm Granatwerfer 36 was a light infantry mortar designed to provide close fire support at the platoon level. Compact and portable, it could be quickly deployed to engage enemy positions with high‑explosive rounds. Its modest range and limited explosive power reduced effectiveness against fortified targets, but it excelled in suppressing infantry and disrupting movement. Crews valued its ease of operation and rapid rate of fire, though its weight was still burdensome for long marches. By mid‑war, it was largely replaced by heavier mortars, yet it remained in service for secondary roles and defensive positions.
