Description
The Dicker Max was a German self‑propelled anti‑tank gun developed during the Second World War. Built on a modified Panzer IV chassis, it carried a powerful 105 mm Kanone 18 L/52 gun, originally intended for long‑range bunker‑busting. Only two prototypes were produced in 1941, and they were sent to the Eastern Front for field testing.
The vehicle offered formidable firepower capable of destroying Soviet armour at great distances, but its open‑topped fighting compartment and thin armour left the crew vulnerable to artillery and small‑arms fire. One prototype was lost early in its deployment due to an accidental ammunition explosion, while the second continued service but suffered from mechanical issues and limited mobility.
Although the Dicker Max demonstrated impressive accuracy and destructive capability, its specialised design and practical shortcomings prevented mass production.
