Dodge WC 52 (US)

Description

The Dodge WC series was a versatile range of military utility vehicles that played a pivotal role during World War II. The series included a variety of 4WD and medium 6WD trucks, which were produced in large numbers due to their reliability and robustness. The WC-56, WC-57, and WC-58 were part of the 3/4-ton range and were commonly used as command and reconnaissance vehicles. The WC-56, known as the Command Car, was designed for use by senior officers and featured a liquid-cooled, straight-6 Chrysler flathead petrol engine. The WC-57 was similar but included a winch. The WC-58 variant was equipped with a full suite of radio equipment, making it the scarcest of the Dodge 3/4-ton command-type vehicles.

The WC-51 and WC-52 were also part of the 3/4-ton series and were referred to as Weapons Carriers. The WC-51 did not have a winch, while the WC-52 included a 7,500 lb front-mounted winch. These vehicles were designed to transport troops and equipment and were known for their ability to handle difficult terrain, which made them particularly prevalent throughout the Normandy campaign. The WC series’ adaptability allowed for various configurations, including ambulances, radio cars, and cargo trucks, demonstrating the range’s utility across different military needs.
