Description

The Ferdinand tank destroyer, later equipped with a hull mounted machine gun and known as the Elefant, was a German heavy tank destroyer used during World War II. It was named after its designer, Ferdinand Porsche. Armed with an 88mm Pak 43/2 L/71 gun, it was one of the most powerful tank destroyers of the war. The Ferdinand was heavily armoured but suffered from mechanical issues and lack of mobility. It first saw action in the Battle of Kursk in 1943, where it demonstrated its formidable firepower but also its vulnerabilities. Despite its flaws, it remained in service until the end of the war.
