Flakpanzer III (German)

Description

The Flakpanzer III was a German self‑propelled anti‑aircraft vehicle based on the Panzer III chassis. It typically mounted a 3.7cm FlaK 43 in an open‑topped turret, providing mobile air defence for armoured formations. Armour protection was modest, but the vehicle offered good stability and mobility, allowing it to accompany frontline units. Its gun was effective against low‑flying aircraft and could also be used against infantry or lightly armoured vehicles. Although produced in limited numbers, it helped mitigate Allied air superiority during late‑war operations, offering more survivability and flexibility than towed anti‑aircraft guns.
