Home Guard Bedford OXA (British)

Description

The Bedford OXA was an improvised armoured lorry created during Britain’s early‑war equipment shortages. Based on the Bedford OX truck, it featured steel plating and a mounted Bren or Boys anti‑tank rifle. Intended for Home Guard and airfield defence, it provided basic protection and mobile firepower against potential invasion threats. Although crude and lightly armoured, it offered reassurance during a period of national vulnerability. The OXA was never intended for frontline combat but served effectively in local defence roles.
