Hummel Ammunition Carrier (German)

Description

The Hummel ammunition carrier was a support vehicle built on the same chassis as the Hummel self‑propelled 15cm howitzer. It transported additional rounds for artillery batteries, ensuring sustained fire during prolonged engagements. The vehicle lacked the howitzer but retained similar mobility and armour, allowing it to operate close to the guns. Crews could load ammunition directly into Hummels or use the carrier as a temporary firing platform if necessary. Its role was essential in maintaining the high rate of fire required by German artillery doctrine, especially on the Eastern Front where logistics were often stretched.
