Description

The American Indian 841 was a specialised motorcycle developed for desert warfare, featuring a longitudinal V‑twin engine and shaft drive inspired by German designs. Intended for use in North Africa, it prioritised cooling efficiency and smooth handling on sand and rough ground. Although innovative, it saw limited deployment due to shifting strategic needs and competition from simpler machines like the WLA. Its unique engineering made maintenance more complex, reducing frontline suitability. Nevertheless, the 841 demonstrated advanced thinking in motorcycle design, offering stable performance, good endurance, and comfortable long‑distance riding in environments where conventional motorcycles struggled.
