Laffly S20 TL tanker (French)

Description

The Laffly S20 TL tanker was a specialised variant of the French Laffly S20 series, developed in the late 1930s to support mechanised units with fuel transport. Built on the rugged 6×6 S20TL chassis, the tanker retained Laffly’s distinctive auxiliary wheels mounted at the front and beneath the cab, which improved cross‑country mobility by helping the vehicle climb obstacles and traverse uneven terrain.

Powered by a Hotchkiss petrol engine producing around 68 horsepower, the S20 TL could reach speeds of approximately 65 km/h, making it suitable for rapid resupply operations. The tanker body was fitted to carry fuel for armoured cars and trucks, ensuring operational endurance during manoeuvres. Production was limited, with only a few hundred S20 vehicles of all types completed before France’s defeat in 1940.
