M2-4 Truck (US)

Description

The M2-4 truck was a robust American military vehicle used for transport and support duties during the Pacific War. Trucks of this type carried troops, ammunition, fuel, food and engineering equipment between beaches, depots and forward positions. Their cargo beds could be adapted for specialised roles, including communications, maintenance, weapons carriage and rocket launching. Four-wheel drive and sturdy construction helped them negotiate rough roads, although deep mud and soft sand still caused difficulties. On islands such as Okinawa, trucks were vital to sustaining advances through heavy rain and damaged terrain. Their unarmoured bodies left crews vulnerable, making route clearance, camouflage and careful movement essential near combat areas.
