M4A3E8 Sherman ‘Easy Eight’ medium tank (US)

Description

The M4 Sherman, officially known as the Medium Tank, M4, was the most widely used medium tank by the United States and Western Allies during World War II. Renowned for its reliability, ease of production, and versatility, the M4 Sherman became a symbol of Allied armoured power.

The M4A3E2, also known as the “Jumbo,” was a heavily armoured variant designed to lead assaults and withstand direct hits from German anti-tank guns. It featured thicker frontal armour and a more powerful Ford GAA V8 engine.

The M4A3E8, or “Easy Eight,” was an improved version with a 76 mm gun and Horizontal Volute Spring Suspension (HVSS) for better mobility and smoother ride over rough terrain. This variant saw extensive service in the later stages of the war and was praised for its enhanced firepower and manoeuvrability.

The M4 105mm variant was equipped with a 105 mm howitzer, providing significant firepower for infantry support roles. This version was particularly effective in destroying fortified positions and providing indirect fire support.
