Description
The Morris C8 Quad was a British artillery tractor widely used during World War II. Designed for towing field guns such as the 25-pounder, anti-aircraft guns, and their limber, this versatile vehicle was integral to the mobility and effectiveness of British artillery units. Manufactured by Morris Motors Limited, the C8 Quad featured robust engineering and a distinctively compact, sloping body, making it suitable for operation in varied terrains.
The tractor was powered by a 4-cylinder Morris EH petrol engine, producing around 70 horsepower. This gave it a maximum speed of approximately 50 km/h (31 mph). With its four-wheel drive capability, the Morris C8 Quad offered excellent traction and handling on challenging surfaces, ensuring reliable transport for artillery pieces and equipment.
The vehicle accommodated a crew of six, who could sit in the enclosed cabin or utilise the rear storage area. Its practical design also included space for ammunition, tools, and additional supplies. Despite its sturdy build, the C8 Quad was not armoured, reflecting its primary role as a support vehicle rather than a combat one.
