PanzerJager I (German)

Description

The Panzerjäger I was Germany’s first dedicated tank destroyer, created by mounting the Czech 4.7cm PaK(t) gun on the Panzer I chassis. Lightly armoured and open‑topped, it offered limited protection but provided much‑needed mobile anti‑tank capability during early campaigns. It served in France, North Africa, and the Eastern Front, where its gun remained effective against early Allied tanks. As armour improved, the Panzerjäger I became increasingly outclassed, yet it continued to serve in secondary roles. Its design set the pattern for later German tank destroyers built on existing chassis to meet urgent battlefield needs.
