Renault UE (French)

Description

The Renault UE, officially known as the Chenillette de Ravitaillement d’Infanterie Modèle 1931, was a French light tracked supply vehicle developed in the early 1930s. Designed to support infantry units by transporting ammunition, fuel, and equipment under fire, it was unarmed and compact, with a crew of two. Powered by a 38 hp Renault engine, it had a top speed of 30 km/h and a range of 100 km. Its rear cargo bin could carry 350 kg, and it was often paired with the Renault UK trailer for an additional 600 kg payload.

Over 5,000 units were produced between 1932 and 1940, including licence-built versions in Romania. The Renault UE was widely deployed across French infantry divisions and later captured in large numbers by German forces, who repurposed them for various roles, including mounting machine guns and anti-tank weapons. A few were exported, notably to China, though some were intercepted en route.

Despite its limited combat capability, the Renault UE was a vital logistical asset. Its low profile and tracked mobility made it ideal for frontline resupply. It also served as the basis for several experimental variants, including armed reconnaissance versions and smoke-laying vehicles, showcasing its adaptability in a rapidly evolving military landscape.
