Description
The FCM 36 was a French light infantry tank designed prior to World War II. Developed by Forges et Chantiers de la Méditerranée (FCM) in the mid-1930s, it featured advanced technologies for its time, including welded sloped armour and a diesel engine. The tank had a crew of two and was armed with a 37mm main gun and a 7.5mm coaxial machine gun.
Weighing approximately 12.35 metric tons, the FCM 36 had a maximum speed of 24 km/h and an operational range of 225 km. Its armour thickness ranged from 40 mm on the hull to 44-55 mm on the sloped sides. Despite its advanced design, only 100 units were produced due to its higher production cost compared to other light tanks.
The FCM 36 saw action during the early stages of World War II, notably in the Battle of France in 1940. Although it demonstrated good performance, its impact was limited by the small number produced and the outdated military doctrines of the time.
