Sd.Kfz.7-1 – 20mm Flakvierling 38 (German)

Description

The Sd.Kfz. 7/1 mounted the quadruple 20mm Flakvierling 38 anti‑aircraft gun on the Sd.Kfz. 7 half‑track. Its high rate of fire made it extremely effective against low‑flying aircraft and infantry. Armour protection was minimal, but mobility allowed it to accompany frontline units and reposition quickly. The vehicle became increasingly important as Allied air superiority grew, providing vital air defence for armoured and mechanised formations. It also proved deadly in a ground‑support role. Widely used on all fronts, the Sd.Kfz. 7/1 was one of Germany’s most successful mobile anti‑aircraft platforms.
