Shtrafbat squad (Soviet)

Description

Shtrafbat squads were Soviet penal units made up of Gulag inmates and soldiers deemed “cowardly” – though after Order No. 227, cowardly could be considered simply not being suicidal by charging into the teeth of a German MG42 platoon over open ground.
