Description
The Staghound Mk II was a variant of the T17E1 Staghound armoured car, developed by the United States during World War II and used primarily by British and Commonwealth forces. The Mk II version was equipped with a 3-inch howitzer in place of the original 37mm gun, providing it with greater firepower for infantry support roles. This modification made the Staghound Mk II effective in both direct fire support and anti-infantry operations.
The Staghound series was known for its robust design, featuring a 4×4 wheel configuration, sloped armour for increased protection, and a top speed of around 55 mph (89 km/h). The vehicle was powered by two GMC 270 engines, giving it a good balance of speed and mobility. The Staghound Mk II retained the same basic hull and turret design as the Mk I but with the significant upgrade in armament.
The Staghound Mk II saw action in various theatres, including North Africa, Italy, and Northwestern Europe. Its versatility and reliability made it a valuable asset for reconnaissance and support missions. Post-war, the Staghound continued to serve in various countries, demonstrating its enduring utility and effectiveness on the battlefield
