Description

The Soviet SU-100 was a powerful tank destroyer introduced in late 1944, designed to counter increasingly formidable German armour. Built on the T-34 chassis, it featured a fixed casemate mounting the 100mm D-10S gun, capable of penetrating 125mm of vertical armour at 2,000 metres.

This made it highly effective against German Panthers and even Tiger I tanks. The SU-100 had improved frontal armour (75mm sloped) and a redesigned commander’s cupola, enhancing battlefield awareness. Although it lacked a secondary machine gun, it was valued for its accuracy, firepower, and reliability.

First seeing action in Hungary during Operation Frühlingserwachen, it also participated in the Battle of Berlin, where its gun proved effective against fortifications. By war’s end, over 2,300 units had been produced.

The SU-100 remained in Soviet service for decades and was widely exported, seeing combat in conflicts across the Middle East and Asia well into the late 20th century.
