Type 95 Ha-Go Light tank (Japanese)

Description

The Type 95 Ha-Go was a light tank used by the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II. Designed in the early 1930s, it was intended to support infantry and provide reconnaissance capabilities. The Ha-Go was relatively small and lightweight, weighing around 7.4 tons, which allowed it to be easily transported and maneuvered in various terrains.

The tank was powered by a Mitsubishi A6120VDe air-cooled diesel engine, producing 120 horsepower, and could reach speeds of up to 45 km/h. Its main armament was a Type 94 37 mm tank gun, complemented by two Type 91 6.5 mm machine guns. The Ha-Go’s armour was relatively thin, with a maximum thickness of 12 mm, which made it vulnerable to anti-tank weapons but sufficient against small arms fire.

The Ha-Go saw extensive service in various theatres, including China, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific islands. It was involved in notable battles such as the Battle of Khalkhin Gol, the invasion of the Philippines, and the Battle of Guadalcanal. Despite its limitations, the Ha-Go was produced in large numbers, with over 2,300 units built by the end of the war.
