Description
The Type 98 Ro-Ke was a medium artillery tractor developed by the Imperial Japanese Army in the late 1930s. Introduced in 1939, the Ro-Ke was designed to tow heavy artillery pieces, such as the 10 cm Cannon and the 15 cm Howitzer. The tractor was based on a robust chassis and featured a 4×4 configuration, providing excellent mobility across various terrains.
The Ro-Ke was powered by a diesel engine producing 120 horsepower, allowing it to reach a maximum speed of 24 km/h. The vehicle had a weight of 6.9 tons and dimensions of 4.3 meters in length, 2.05 meters in width, and 1.91 meters in height. It was equipped with a winch for recovery operations and had a crew of seven.
The Ro-Ke’s design focused on reliability and durability, making it a valuable asset for the Japanese artillery units. It was used extensively in various theatres of war, including China and the Pacific islands. The production of the Ro-Ke continued throughout the war, with a total of 1,983 units built.
