Description
The White 920 Tank Transporter was a heavy-duty 18-ton 6×4 truck developed in the United States prior to the Second World War. Originally ordered by France as a load carrier, the fall of France in 1940 led to many units being diverted to British use, where they were rebodied as tank transporters.
Although not widely adopted by the U.S. Army, some examples were retained for domestic training and logistical duties. Powered by a 6-cylinder, 134 bhp side-valve engine of White’s own design, the vehicle featured a robust chassis and cab-over-engine layout, suitable for hauling medium tanks and armoured vehicles.
Its operational use was largely confined to rear-echelon transport and depot movements, as heavier and more specialised American transporters—such as the M25 Dragon Wagon—took precedence in combat zones.
