Description

During World War II, the Willys MB Jeep was one of the most iconic and widely used military vehicles. Developed in 1940, it was designed as a light, four-wheel-drive reconnaissance and utility vehicle to replace outdated transport options. The U.S. Army needed a rugged, reliable vehicle, and Willys-Overland won the contract, producing the MB model, while Ford manufactured the GPW variant.

The Jeep was highly versatile, serving as a troop transport, ambulance, command vehicle, and even a weapons platform. It featured a 2.2L Willys L134 “Go Devil” engine, providing 60 horsepower and a top speed of 65 mph (105 km/h). With over 640,000 units built between 1941 and 1945, it became the world’s first mass-produced four-wheel-drive vehicle.

Jeeps played a crucial role in Europe, North Africa, and the Pacific, proving invaluable in rough terrain and harsh conditions. They were used for reconnaissance, supply transport, and rapid mobility, often modified for specific battlefield needs.
