Description
This specialised Churchill carried a large fascine—bundles of brushwood bound into a cylindrical shape—on its hull roof. Designed to fill anti‑tank ditches or deep trenches, the fascine was dropped into the obstacle, creating a passable surface for following vehicles. The Churchill’s strong suspension and armour allowed it to operate close to enemy positions during assaults. Although simple, the fascine system was highly effective and widely used in Northwest Europe. The vehicle played a crucial role in maintaining momentum during attacks, enabling armoured units to cross terrain features that would otherwise halt operations.
