Crusader AA – 20mm (British)

Description

The Crusader AA was an anti‑aircraft variant of the Crusader cruiser tank, fitted with twin 20‑mm guns or a single 40mm cannon in an open turret. Designed to protect armoured formations from low‑flying aircraft, it offered high rates of fire and good mobility. Armour protection was modest, but its speed allowed it to keep pace with advancing units. Although Allied air superiority reduced the need for mobile AA later in the war, the Crusader AA proved useful in the Normandy campaign and subsequent operations. It also served as a deterrent against strafing attacks.
