Description
The L6/40 was a WWII light tank of the Italian army. It was the principle tank of the Italian forces fighting on the Eastern Front, but also saw service in the North Africa campaign.
It was a standard light tank of rivetted construction, with a 20mm main gun and a 8mm coaxial MG. Unfortunately, as with so many Italian tank designs, it was an acceptable vehicle during conception but was almost obsolete by the time it entered combat. It was a useful reconnaissance vehicle due to it’s low profile, but a lack of medium tanks also meant it often ended up fulfilling a role it was not designed for.
