Description
Due to the high density jungle cover of the Pacific Islands, the Japanese made excellent use of snipers. Often hiding in trees, many US forces took to indiscriminate firing into the canopy in the hope of dislodging or killing such hidden threats. The combination of the small calibre and long barrel of the Type 97 rifle used by a lone sniper ensured that even when they fired, detection often remained difficult as there was little muzzle flash.
