Description
The SPA-Viberti AS43 was an Italian reconnaissance vehicle developed during World War II, primarily for use in the North African desert. It was based on the chassis of the FIAT-SPA TL37 light artillery tractor, adapted to meet the demands of desert warfare. The AS43 was designed for long-range reconnaissance, convoy escort, and ambush operations.
In addition to the unarmoured gun-truck variants, it was also converted into an armoured car by the addition of an armoured superstructure mounting the turret from an L6 tank.
There is no specific data regarding numbers produced – figures range from over 100 to 3, though given the short life of the RSI, it is likely fewer were made.
