Destroyed Type 95 Ha-Go (Japanese)

Description

The Type 95 Ha-Go was Japan’s most numerous light tank of the Second World War. Designed during the 1930s, it combined good mobility with a 37mm main gun and two machine guns. Its compact size and light weight suited operations in China and the difficult terrain of Southeast Asia. However, thin armour, cramped working conditions and limited firepower left it badly outclassed by later Allied tanks and anti-tank weapons. Type 95s continued serving because Japan lacked sufficient modern replacements. During island battles they were frequently dug into defensive positions or used in counterattacks, where concentrated artillery, bazookas and tank gunfire usually destroyed them quickly.
